VODAFONE Gears Up For Top Spot
Vodafone will soon
move a step higher to
become the preferred
mobile phone service
with the introduction
of improved services.
The recent agreement between
Vodafone Ghana and Huawei Technologies,
China to inject USD120 million
into the operations of the company
is expected to facilitate the provision
of 2G/3G technology services
for the company’s Onetouch mobile
subsidiary service.
Head of Corporate Communications
Major Rtd. Albert Don-Chebe tells
CIO Business World the investment
would improve existing services,
add new technologies and ensure
that Onetouch becomes the number
one mobile phone service in the
country.
“Naturally, customers will move to a
company that provides efficient and
modern services to its customers,
therefore when our services improve
it is envisaged that many customers
both decided and undecided will
move to the Onetouch network. This
will result in a change in the positions
of companies in the industry. Our immediate
goal is to move from the
third position to the second and
later the first position”.
Vodafone UK, which acquired 70 per
cent shares in Ghana Telecom for
USD900m in a controversial deal in
June 2008, has so far sought to improve
call drops and respond faster
to fault detection.
<
Onetouch currently has less than 20
per cent shares of the total mobile
telephone subscribers but hopes to
change its fortunes with the implementation
of the improvement programme.
Don-Chebe was confident a lot will
change in the current services with
the huge investment as fault incidence
rate will be drastically minimized
while call drops will be a
thing of the past.
Other enhanced services will also be
introduced on the network
For the business community, Don-
Chebe believes the investment will
provide a first class technology and
offer an affordable, data-oriented
and effective cross-border communication.
He adds, “the aim of the investment
is to significantly enhance network
quality and increase customer satisfaction
on the Onetouch network. For
the industry, our network quality will
set the tone for others to emulate and
thereby improve the telecommunications
sector in general”.
